Nine out of ten businesses 'paying too much on utility bills'

Around nine out of ten businesses are paying more than they have to on gas, electricity and telecoms bills, according to new research.

Utility Watch's study found that companies could save around a fifth on energy bills by seeking the best deals, while they could also save 35 per cent on their phone bills.

In addition, the commercial utility consultancy's research claimed that 58 per cent of businesses have little knowledge of supply side contracts and how they can help them compare deals.

Commenting on the findings, Utility Watch founder Greg Shepherd said business electricity customers should not be "blinded by contractual complexities" and the pricing structure of their deals.

He added: "Even in cases where organisations had struck an efficient deal in one sector, only a handful could claim the same across gas electric and telecoms."

Tariq Akbar recently told BusinessGreen.com that many businesses are "under pressure" from energy suppliers, who claim they are having their hands forced to increase prices owing to high wholesale energy costs.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18424557-ADNFCR
